Fearless Aging: Finding Tranquility in Animal Dignity
At the beginning of our lives, we are dominated by the childlike expectation that everything will go well in life. We don’t even consider the possibility that it could be otherwise.
However, at some point, things no longer go smoothly. Things change.
Something happens. Something crashes. Something goes awry. We become afraid.
And I don’t mean fear of a vicious dog, a house fire, or a burglar, but rather the fear of the unknown. There’s something big, clumsy, and incomprehensible. Something dark.
Fear has a lot of power over us; it has many arguments that we find difficult to resist. Fear doesn’t differentiate; it simplifies. You’re simply afraid.
But there is a way. We can face our fears. We’re not alone in doing so. Our allies against fear are joy, creativity, curiosity, and humor. Perhaps there are also people who can help you regain a youthful sense of self, maybe even reaching a blissful state of self-forgetfulness.
When we stand up to fear, we receive the gift of animalistic tranquility in return. It would be like this: aging gracefully, without fear, without desires.
Then, after all, everything will turn out well.
